Early this morning, around 1:41 am EST, the sun released an enormous and surprising solar flare.
According to Time Mag , we will not be in peril ; NASA announces it will only strike us a "glancing blow." Essentially , a giant cloud of comparatively cool particles "mushroomed up," then slid back down onto the sun's surface. Whoa!! This solar flare was the largest one in 2 years, and may result in minor interruptions to satellites. ( don't depend on your GPS ).
